Problems with Mail Merge and Outlook 2003

I am trying to generate individualized emails based using a distribution
list. I ran into the problem of outlook not being able to see the contacts
in the distribution list. Okay, I tried exporting the contacts to excel and
use that as the data source. The problem is that the email address field now
shows in the form of /o=COMPANY/ou=US/cn=Recipients/cn=58256

there is no (e-mail address removed)

How do I fix this? Or is there a better way to generate individualized
emails for a distribution list from outlook?

Distribution Lists do not contain Contacts. Accordingly, they can't possibly
serve as the data source for a mail merge. You must use a Contacts Folder
for that.
