problems with IE

I have been having a problem that seems to be getting progressively worse. I
am using IE 6 and I started noticing about 3 weeks ago that my computer would
start to time out when I used IE. When I used firefox my computer worked
fine. But what would happen is that I would be able to send some emails and
after a short while I would try to send one, and my computer would not
respond. After waiting I tried to X out and that would not even work. So I
tried to use Task manager and had to try to get rid of the program and would
get a message that it was not responding..... This problems is getting worse
and worse and now I can not use IE at all. I have run windows defender, my
computer virus program, also Spybot etc to see what could be causing this.
But the only good clue I have is that my computer works fine with
firefox...but not with IE. I am confused.

I have a AMD 3200 with 2000 Ram, I use XP, 160 gigabytes of Hard drive...my
video card is the Nvidia 5900 xt....I use Cable to run my internet connection
so it is extremely fast. I have not upgraded to IE 7 because numerous people
told me that they had problems when they upgraded ....granted this was months
ago....so maybe most of those problems were solved....

Had it been IE7 I would have recommended you to run in extension mode or

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff

But since this is IE. Lets us do this.

Download Autoruns from http://www.sysinternals.com and run it ensuring all
IE and explorer windows are closed

disable any third party browser extensions under internet explorer tab and
the explorer tab. Anything that has publisher showing other than Microsoft.
Uninstall any Yahoo toolbars or google toolbars from the add remove programs.
Reboot teh machine and check if you see a marked improvement is IE
performance.

esplorer that do not correspond with window....how do I get the program to
run? Or after checking the boxes do I just reboot my computer...also I did
not save the program on my hard drive....is that necessary? Thanks for you

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,

analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

My problems seemed to disappear after I removed the yahoo bar....but I will
try to run some of your programs just to see if that also could be a
factor...thanks for taking the time to advise me....I do appreciate it...and
happy holidays to you...
