Problems with IE 6, opening and closing

Whenever I double-click on the desktop icon, the Blue E turns shaded, an
hourglass appears, disappears, and nothing happens. I double click again, and
it opens immediately. I close out of IE 6 okay, but when I go to shut my
computer down, I get an error message that reads, "Ending Program,
iexplore.exe".......then nothing happens after it goes through the sequence.
I have to shut down two or three times, before it works.

Please help!

(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

I'm stuck on a similar one in IE hangs on opening - they have done all that
and still exactly the same symptoms.

It seems IE is opening but not showing - asked them to check task manager
etc so see what happens. Also said try iexplore in the run box to see if
that works...

I am thinking if it's small invisible windows then typing iexplore
www.charlietame.org/ie/windowsize.htm might get the first window resized so
they can close it again and be back to normal. If you have any other ideas
