Problems with flat screen

I have problems with my DELL 15 TFT flat screen. I am trying to adjust it to show 1024*768 which is recommended. When I do that it says that "Cannot show video output"
 
It is a question for Dell tech support, which you paid
for...call them on their 800 number.

What is the connection you are using to get the signal from the computer to
the monitor?
