Problems with desktop

the first problem i had was that the display wouldnt let me change the destop
background. i deletes a registry file to make that work again. now my icons
have their own backgroud, they arent transparent. i tried the drop shadows on
destop icons, but it didnt do a thing. Please help

Try the following:

Right click an open area of the Desktop.
Select Properties from the menu.
In Display Properties, click on the Desktop tab.
Hit the Customize Desktop button.
In Desktop Items, click on the Web tab.
On the web tab, remove the check mark from the box next to
"Lock Desktop Items".
Click OK twice.
