Problems with deleting text

When I select text, why doesn't it delete when i hit Backspace? The cursor
only reappears at the beginning of the text. The same happens when i select
text and replace it with new text when i click paste. Can anyone help me?

I had had the same problem before I checked its solution here
I have Polish version of Microsoft Word 2007 and there is a similar problem
