Problems with booting up with CF as well as HD

Hi Guys,

I have a problem with booting up from the HD as well as the CF.. My setup is
as follows:
A mini-PC with Transmeta processor 500MHz from Advantech and their
motherboard.
I have it connected to a hard drive with 2 partitions. As per the
documentation I created the 1st partition for about 500MB(a little less than
the 512 MB CF from Sandisk). On the 2nd partition, I have Win2000
installed. The boot.ini is configured to boot from both the partitions...

I built my image without any warnings and errors. I used the TA utility to
get the device list and used the "Boot from compact Flash" instructions on
the MSDN site. i.e. I added EWF, El Dorito CD etc..

After building the image, I copied it over to my hard disk on the primary
partition and tried to bootup w/o using the CF... During bootup, I instantly
get the message (Stop: 0x0000007B(0xFE88F640, 0xC0000034, 0x0, 0x0).. I
copied the image over to my flash and tried to bootup from there w/o having
any hard drive connected, there also I still get the same message (of
course, in this case, I don't expect it to work anyways)..

As per documentation, the 0x0007B normally comes when you have a problem
with Post-FBA El Torito CD.. but in my case I haven't even gone through the
FBA stage...

I've tried to do all sorts of things but haven't gotten anywhere.. I'd
appreciate if anybody can help me out here...

Thanks,
Regards,
AS

It's usually best to get an image working well before adding EWF and/or El
Torito complications just for a sanity check.

Try using TAP.EXE instead of TA.EXE to see if that includes components you
missed with TA.EXE. Stop 7b generally means that you are missing a critical
boot component - IDE controller, etc...

AS,

Don't know what you read about the 7B but it usually means you are missing
some critical device from your build.
Read this
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/embedded/community/tips/xp/stoperror7b.asp
and the tip solutions help you.
Btw, TA does not often bring IDE Controllers into the image. Try adding the
IDE Primary and Secondary Channel components and see if it help. Also, check
if you have PCI Bus component in your image.

I think that's what it was.. I did a compare of the output from the ta.exe
and tap.exe and surely the primary and secondary ide channels were missing
from the TA.exe device list...

But now that we have this figured out, I get another error while booting
with the message

"Windows could not boot because the following file is corrupt or
missing(hal.dll) "

Now, I have 2 partitions as I said in my earlier email, drive C is for XPe
and drive D for win2K..
I used the compact flash(drive E) to copy the image contents from my
development station to the C drive. I didn't overwrite the boot.ini and
made sure it had the disk(0), partition(1) for XPe and disk(0) and
partition(2) for Win2K.. The copied file is the same size as the one
generated in my development station 70KB...

Anything I'm doing wrong here..

Thanks,
AS.
