problems with arranging emails in different ways in different fold

i recently noticed that i can't arrange emails in individual folders anymore.
example: in most of the various subfolders in my inbox, emails are arranged
by date. however, in one specific subfolder i arrange emails by subject.
in the past, that has been a bit shaky (i.e. every few weeks i needed to
redo the different folders, as the views got mixed up), but it generally
worked. but now, as soon as i change the view for one particular folder, all
other folders change as well.
any ideas?

When you make changes to the default Messages view, all folders using that
view are affected. Define separate views and assign them to those folders to
make sure you don't make global edits.

it happens even if i change just the local view (the button above the actual
folder).
if i do that, the change will at first only affect that that sub-folder in
my inbox (as intended), and i can browse/work in other folders with their
original settings. however, as soon as i click on the changed sub-folder
again, all inbox sub-folders (and the deleted items folder) immediately take
on the settings of that folder.
i did not have that problem before (not to the same extent anyway - see my
original email).

I'd still recommend using separate defined views. All other settings to the
"local view" should be considered as temporary.
