Problems Stopping Windows Installer Program

Hoping someone can help, here goes:

I'm running XP SP2 on a system about two years old with recent RAM
upgrade. Whenever I try to start my scanner, or sometimes when I try
to start video media or pictures, the windows installer starts an
install process. I can cancel the process, but will have to do so
several times before it will stop, and my scanner software will begin.
If the process goes to the end, a message telling me to insert the
corresponding CD-ROM appears. I'll cancel that request and receive an
error 1706 messege. At first this only happened when I tried to start
my scanner, but recently has began doing so on some video files or
picture files. How can I stop this process from starting? It's making
some of the work I do with editing video and pictures a much longer
process than need be. All of the correct software for my scanner is
all ready installed and working fine, and no software is needed for the
video and picture work. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

What program is causing the error? It should say in the error window, or
in
the install window. Why don't you put the CD in when it asks for it?

There are 2 main things I came up with from a search:
Microsoft Office causing the error. See if this helps:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297834
Some other software causing the error. See if this helps:

I'll try the links first...I think one may work well. Yes, I could use
the CD's, but that actually takes up more time because the disc tries to
install the program again and I have to go through the process of
stopping the install, besides the programs are already installed on my
machine...why should I even have to use the discs for something that
should work and has worked in the past without it. I only have the
disc for one program, HP scan, and not the other, PhtoGallery. I don't
even know where the PhotoGallery thing came from. I don't have that
program installed on my machine and don't know what it is. Thanks for
the advice. I'll give it a try.

Every time I launch my application, Windows Installer performs an
installation. How can I determine the cause of the on-demand installation?

Hey y'all, problem solved. The cleaner fixed it for me. I still don't
know where the PhotoGallery application came from, but cleaner took care
of it. Thanks Rock
