Problems sending / receiving E-mail SMPT POP error

I have ISP DSL service through verizon and have to mail accounts. One is set up to communicate through the .net server with Verizon and the other is set to communicate with the .com server. When I send mail using the address that goes through the .net server it works, except that mail account won't receive E-mail. The other account set to communicate with the .com server will not send or receive E-mail. I get a POP could not access server message and reference to the SMPT port 25 error 0x800ccc0d. Called Verizon and they said everything is fine. I turned off my Virus scan software since it was set to scan all incoming and out going E-mail and I still have the problem. Is there a possibility that the XP interenal firewall is causing this?

What version of Outlook do you have? What is the exact error message you're
receiving?

The error messages I am receiving are SMTP verizonmail could not be found, SMTP verizonmail SMPT port 25 secure. No socket error 11004 0x800ccc0d. The host POP verizonmail.com Protocol POP3 port 110 secure error 11004 0x00ccc0d

Contact Verizon to find the correct addresses for the incoming and outgoing
servers - "versionmail" is certainly not a valid server address, and I
suspect that "verizonmail.com" is not, either.
