problems saving my e-mail account password

I can't get Outlook 2003 to remember my e-mail password & the continual
pop-up is driving me crazy! I've tried the KB article 290684 that comes up
for this problem with no luck.

Any suggestions out there?

I have the same problem (as apparently do many others!) an despite reading
this forum for hours, I can't find the solution! Does anyone have it?

I found the same problem with a lack of direction on how to fix this issue.
I finally decided to bite the bullet and called Microsoft support. Had to
pay their 'blackmail' fee of $35, but got a solution and it's actually a
whole lot simpler than editing the registry. For me, one who will try
anything, but does so without a grasp on editing the intricacies of my
system, editing the registry, with all the warnings, was quite
nerve-wracking. Since it didn't work for me, I figured I messed up and used
the "Restore" function loaded onto my desktop (more than once, I might add).

Anyhow, after trying what seemed like every solution with the MS tech, yet
still having the problem, we finally arrived at a solution that actually
worked.

He had me create a new User Account, label check that the new account is the
Computer Administrator, and "presto," no more Outlook login/password
retention issues. Try the following:

Start >
Control Panel >
User Accounts >
Create a New Account >
Type in a New User Name >
Select "Computer administrator" as account type >
Create Account.

Different accounts are almost like having a separate computer, so you'll
need to transfer your files from one account to another - copy files from
"bad account" onto CD or DVD media, then transfer to your new account or copy
onto another hard drive (I happen to have 2 on my machine), then transfer
them over. The programs migrate over, but everything else - files, internet
"favorites" lists, Outlook info (e-mail, calendar items, etc.), passwords do
not. Although your programs transfer, you'll still need to set them
up/customize them as you did on the other account, re-setup e-mail accounts,
etc. It takes a while, but I resolved the issue and am a happy Outlook user
again. Keep your old user account on your computer for a while (just don;t
login to it) until you're sure that you have transferred everything over,
then you should delete the account.

Supposedly, the registry, or some other system item associated with Outlook,
is corrupted and this was the only way to resolve the problem.

I hope this helps anyone else who has this problem and is frustrated with
the lack of information pointing towards this solution.
