Problems saving as .doc in Office 2007

Hi,

I have a new laptop with windows vista OS and have just installed office
2007. my desktop at work is windows XP with office 2003.

Now I know that you can save woprd documents as office 97(.doc) but whenever
I save as this, it still saves the file as .docx

I'm at my wit's end, as the entire package is useless if noone else can read
my files! Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

In Word 2007...saving as: 'Word.97 - 2003 Document'
should result in a file with the .doc extension.

Maybe this article will offer some ideas:

(925756) The "Word 97-2003 & 6.0/95 - RTF
(*.doc)" file converter is missing in Word 2007

Three points:

1. You would likely do much better asking Word questions in a Word
newsgroup rather than here in a Vista one. The Word newsgroup is where
the Word experts (I'm not one of them) hang out.

2. I have personally never had any problem using Save as to save files
in the .doc format.

3. Those people with older version of Word will be able to read the
new docx format if they install the compatibility pack. See

Click on the MS Office ICON, the strange Windows ICON in the upper left,
select SAVE AS, then select the TOOLS button in the lower left, then
select SAVE OPTIONS, now you can pick "Save files in this format" and
select the one you want.

It will use that method from then on - same for Excel and others.
