problems logging into windows email account

I am experience problems with windows mail since yesterday when I log into my
account it just shows authorizing and then an error message "your pop3 server
has not responded would you like to wait .... Account: POP3 Server: POP3.
This is not a problem with the network provider and I see that other people
are having the same problem with windows mail. I have disabled the anti-virus
protector and the problem still exists. I can send emails but not receive.

POP3 is not a valid server name. Ask your mail provider what it should be.

POP3 is not a valid server name. The results of using it depend on what, if
anything, your internet provider does with such invalid names. Ask your
email
provider (who is probably also your internet provider) for their
instructions for
setting up to use their email servers. If they haven't written instructions
for
Windows Mail yet, use their instructions for Outlook Express but under
Windows Mail instead. The instructions are probably somewhere on their
web site. Or, you could tell us who your email provider is and see if
anyone
here already knows where to find the instructions.

"POP3" is not a valid server name. You must use the mail server names
specified by your ISP or mail provider.

Your server name is incorrect, it should be something like 'pop.isp.com',
not simply POP3. Check with your ISP, he should have the correct names for
you.

Yes I know POP3 is not a mail provider the screen reads POP3: then followed
by name of my service provider. I have checked everything with the mail
provider the problem seems to be with windows . When I veiw the errors
message the message reads... account details... protocol POP3, Port 110,
Secure(SSL) error number OX800CCC19

Irish Broadband are my service provider. They have checked everything and
the problem is still there. Everything was fine up to yesterday evening
something must have changed either with a windows update or an anti virus
update.

The server name is more likely to have POP3 followed by a period than
followed by a colon.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

Thank you for your help. Yes I have discovered that neither Nortons nor
Mcfee are compatable with windows mail I am using NOD32 without difficulty
until yesterdays problem.

Have you turned off email scanning if it offers that option? In some
antivirus
programs, that helps avoid problems with Windows Mail.

I had the same problem last night. I called my cable company and the rep
walked me through deleting and re-setting my email account. Easiest thing in
the world. Go to tools..properties. WRITE DOWN the server name. Then
delete..then add and you get step by step instructions. BTW... POP3 is valid
on my server, which is through Cox Cable. Took 5 minutes. If you don't feel
comfortable doing it by yourself, which I didn't, call your cable company or
whoever your provider is and have a rep walk you through the process. Hope
this helps.
