Problems installing NETCF2.0 on PPT8800

Hi,

I need to install .Net Compact Framework 2.0 on a Symbol PPT8800 mobile
computer running CE .Net 4.10 (Build 908). The package I am using is
netcfv2.wce4.armv4.cab. It starts installing OK (to \WINDOWS), but it
eventually comes up with the error:

"Installation error. Stop all applications and processes, maximize available
storage space and run installation again. Support info: 3"

On clicking OK, it comes:

"Setup Failed. Microsoft .NET CF 2.0 was not installed successfully. Please
run Setup again."

I initially suspected that this is a memory-related issue and I have already
played with the memory slider, sometimes increasing storage memory,
sometimes increasing program memory, but to no avail. The device has 30MB
RAM, 21.5MB of which is free.

I have already studied the excellent article in
http://blogs.msdn.com/netcfteam/archive/2005/10/11/479793.aspx,
but it omits CE .NET 4.1. Is this because CF 2.0 is not supported in Win CE
4.10?

Hi Mo

I have the same issue on my HP iPaq H1940 (CE4.2). I'm fortunate in that it ships with a backup utility so I can back the whole thing up to an SD card.

I did this and did a cold restart. .NET CF2 installs fine on a 'vanilla' unit (using the MSI installer) and the associated app that I need it for runs fine. I guess this means there is a compatibility/ sociability issue somewhere.with resident data/app/registry/etc. (as opposed to O/S version).

I proceeded to restore all my data and programs and attempted to install .NET CF2 after subsequent un-installations of third party apps (about 3 of them). No success, even after un-installing them all.

Plan B is to start from scratch (i.e cold re-start), install .NET CF2 first, then my new app. Followed by a re-sync of mail etc. and will then manually re-install my other applications. Probably not until the weekend though.
