Problems importing Excel to Outlook Contacts

Trying to import names and addresses from Excel 2003 file to Outlook Contacts
does not work correctly. Prepared Excel file with exact Field Names used in
Outlook and followed HELP directions. Tried both matching field names and
mapping. But all it does is crunch and goes 'not responding'. List is just
simple names address list with 185 line entries. I even shortened list to
five names with same result.

New Outlook user - Windows XP machine with 512 memory.
Long time MS Office Professional user.
Always used Outlook Express, before.
New boss wants contacts stored in 'Contacts'.

Please help....... Jim

Do you have Outlook 2003 and Excel 2003?

Have you named the range in Excel, shut Excel and then gone to Outlook to
import using the Import wizard?

Both Excel and Outlook are 2003 from same CD. I already had field names on
Line 1 of the file, but when I tried to use the import wizard it failed and
talked about ranges. I researched setting range information. Seen range
info on MS Outlook Help and went back to set range names using (choose range,
Insert-Name-Create). File now gets into wizard but mapping doesn't seem to
work right. Trying to map Name, Address, City, State, etc as directed to
Contacts. But it tries to identify each cell one at a time to the Contacts
side. I was assuming once I mapped Name to Name, Address to Address, etc. it
would just suck all the data in and match it up. I must have missed something
somewhere but I just don't see it. THANKS for your help.

Name the range in Excel - highlight the part you want to export and then
type a name in the window, top left.
Close Excel.

Open Outlook and now try the Import wizard.
