Problems connecting to domain through Dlink DWL-2000+ Wireless Access Point

Hi all,

I am having problems connecting a brand new HP Laptop to the domain.
There are currently 2 machines fully connected, pinging etc...

The Laptop is running on Windows XP pro and has an internal 802.11g
card. I can connect to the access point when it shows up on "Available
Networks" part of windows networking but i cannot get to any network
recources. The Access point itself shows up as being having a
connection to the laptops recording the mac address etc.

Once connected i cannot get a connection to the server in order to get
dhcp address.

The status of the wireless connection show packets being sent but not
received.

I have full strength signal.

Mac address filtering is turned off.

WEP is on but i know the code and connected so i know it aint that.



I have tried many different configurations but it aint having it. The
only difference i can see is that windows is not controlling the
wireless networking on the laptops that are connected....

It is using some dlink software that came with the external adpater.
The working machines are on windows 2000 professional.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would look to a firewall issue first. Since this is a new laptop, it
came with Service Pack 2 preinstalled. Service Pack 2 automatically
enables the Windows Firewall. If you are not running a third-party
firewall, go to the Windows Firewall applet in Control Panel and enable
File & Printer Sharing on the Exceptions tab. If you are using a
third-party firewall (and have properly configured it to allow your lan
traffic as Trusted), then turn the Windows Firewall off. You don't want
two firewalls running, and a third-party program will be better than
the WF. All firewalls must be properly configured to allow lan traffic
as Trusted.

I have installed many of these laptop and ap's but i never come over
this problem before. The onlyproblem is that i didnt installt his ap,

OK. Did you check the firewall status?

OK, you mentioned that the laptop is not using Windows to control the
network, but rather the DLink software? Here's your quote:

I'm not sure what you mean by "the external adapter". Does the HP laptop
not have built-in wireless? If the laptop is using some third-party
wireless connection manager, try disabling it and using the Windows
Wireless setup. And when you say the firewall is off, I assume you mean
that Windows Firewall is off. What other firewall is installed on the
laptop? Do you have Norton Antivirus or Internet Security 2005? That
program has a firewall called "Internet Worm Protection".
