I've just installed the latest IE update and now I'm
having problems with the IE Address bar and webpage/e-mail
message links for MP3 files. I used to be able to search
from from the Address bar - just enter a keyword or phrase
and it would use the default MSN search to find what I was
looking for.

And, I run several music sites and am used to be able to
insert links into e-mail messages and webpages for MP3
files. Now those links don't work. If the link points to a
WAV, RM, or QT file they work fine.

Very strange...

I saw a couple of KB articles about changing the Default
SearchUrl key in regedit, but that didn't work.

Tried uninstalling IE and reinstalling. Didn't help and
now my IE icons are gone from QuickLaunch and Start menu.

Help...

the latest 5 critical updates have bugs, please uninstall
one by one until problem solved. then wait for microsoft
repair updates.
what a mess they have created.

Thanks Anon. I couldn't get that to work.

I was actually able to pull the IE entries out of an old registry save from a few months back and got the Address bar search to work again. Just replacing the Default value for the SearchUrl key didn't work, as described in an article.

However, any links to MP3 URLs either on webpages or in e-mails (Outlook or webmail) still don't work. I can even copy the full URL to the clipboard, paste into the Address bar and I get page not found. Not fun. Links to M3U URLs (or ANY other URLs) seem to work. Strange strange.
