The DRIVER INSTALLATION file for this device is missing
a necessary entry this may be because the INF was written

This may or may not help, but I did not install ANYTHING from the
'installation disc' that came with the Ethernet modem from my DSL provider
(i also have XP).. Also, In the past, ethernet modems were preferable to any
USB modem for DSL, don't know if that is still the case.
You don't get to see all that fancy GUI that your service provides, and
you don't need it to run DSL service optimally, but some prefer to see all
that stuff when they bootup; all i want is a reasonably fast connection.
Does your DSL work at all?
I would call tech support and ask them to provide an IP (if you don't know
it) and you can type this into your browser to connect. Windows XP can setup
the connection thru Connection Manager; I would also try this first.

Ethernet modems are a lot easier to set up and use but most ISP have gone to
mainly USB style DSL units.

As with any USB device, you MUST install the USB device driver into Windows
before you ever connect the device physically to your PC.
