Problem!

I have to use Excel at work to close our files. When I type our file number
in, such as 09-7129, as I tab through the field, Excel changes it to
September-28! How do I get Excel to accept my numbers exactly as I type them
in? Our closed files are like: 09-7129, 09-7130, 09-7131, etc. I can't have
Excel changing these numbers! Thank you for your help!

this is excel being helpful. it can interpet your file numbers as dates, so
it does.
always helpful excel.
to prevent this, you need to format you file numbers a text or preceed the
entry with an appostrophe ie '09-7129.
