Problem with Windows Update

Running XP Pro. Connects to Windows Updates, asks to load an Active X control
each time and hangs on the window where it reads my computer. Then I get
error 0xDDD000-4. Tried all the obvious such as cleaning browser etc and
ensuring Active X controls not being blocked. Reloaded Windows Update drivers
from MS website but nothing seems to work. Any ideas? IE is v7.
