Problem with wav files in producer

I've imported a wav file to synchronize with my ppt presentation. The wav
file appears in the Audio media window, and if I click on it there is plays
perfectly.

However, when I go to synchronize using the wizard, the audio plays
superfast ... I can't even understand the words ... sounds like a lawyer on
helium ... what am I doing wrong?

If I try to synchronize using the timeline, I have the same problem when I
try to play the audio in the timeline player window.

Try converting the .wav file to .wma using the Media Encoder
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx).

Older format files have been reported to occasionally cause problems with
Producuer.

Have tried converting to wma, used setting for file download distribution.
Same problem. Any other ideas? I'm at the give up point. THis is wasting
more time than I have.
