Problem with typing certain characters in Office 2007 products

Sometimes I have a problem when typing in Outlook or Word; for
example, if I type a single quote, the character that appears on the
screen is è (accented e). This only happens in Office 2007 products,
and ironically autocorrect will insert the single quote properly (i.e.
hasnt --> hasn't). I can then copy and paste the single quote, but
it's time-consuming.

It usually seems after a restart things are OK for a while. I've tried
changing the core font, and installed updated keyboard drivers, but
the problem keeps showing up.

Any ideas? This is an HP A1012X desktop, on Vista Enterprise, with the
standard HP keyboard.

Sounds like you have multiple keyboard layouts configured in Windows. Remove
the ones that you do not use;
Control Panel-> Regional and Language Options-> tab Keyboards and
Languages-> Change Keyboards...
