Problem with Task Scheduler

AK

I have recently upgraded from WinME to Win XP Home edition, and all seems
fine except task scheduler. Scheduled tasks like running Norton Antivirus do
not run.

When I set up the task, a wizard pop-up appears asking for the name of the
user and a password, and the name of my computer appears. The pop up warns
that the application might not run as scheduled if a password is not
entered. This computer is not password protected, and when I either ignore it
or set an arbitrary password, it sets up the task, then another pop-up
appears, stating:

"The new task has been established but may not run because the information
could not be set.
The specific error is:
0xc000003a: (Unable to find an error message)"

When I try to run a task manually from the task scheduler I get a pop-up
labeled "Task Scheduler" that says:

"General page initialization failed
The specific error is:
0xc000003a: (Unable to find an error message)"

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Thanks

I have same problem. You apparently need to properly password-protect the
account in question. Not wanting passwords, being the sole user, I devised
work-arounds like calendar reminders. My Outlook calendar is set to appear
at startup. Why M$ did it this way is anybody's guess as it's one less
usable feature.

I am also the sole user on this (home) computer, so never use a password -
how did you work around it to get (Outlook?) calendar reminders to avoid
this?

Task scheduler as set up will only run if your logon uses a password.
Fix - go to
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks2.htm
and in General Tweaks, about 80% down the list
'Run scheduled tasks w/o PW'

Alex:

I tried this fix, but still have the same problem. When I pull up properties
for a task, the box that should show the name of the user is grayed out.

When I set up the task, even though it shows my name (I am the administrator
and only user) at the end a pop-up appears that says "the new task has been
created, but may not run because the account information could not be set".

It seems to me there's some confusion here (maybe on my part) between the
log-in name and the name Task Scheduler expects, even though they seem the
same.

Any further ideas?

Only to wonder - are you setting it up from a limited user account? It
needs to be from an account with Administrator status

No - I am the administrator.

Its pretty weird - I feel it has something to do with the upgrade.

Is there any way to reinstall task scheduler (w/o reinstalling the whole
OS)?

I first set Outlook to always open in Calendar. I then created a shortcut
to Outlook in the Startup folder. It and another program start at bootup
now.
