Problem with symbols in XP

A

Ankles

I'm running Word 2007 (Professional Plus version) on two computers. The OS on
one is Vista and on the other is XP.

One of the advantages of Word 2007 for me is the additional symbols it has
over previous versions, many of which I use in my work as a linguist. I've
noticed, however, that some of the symbols are missing when I use Word 2007
on the computer with XP. Of particular importance to me are the missing
half-brackets. Today I opened a document that was created on the Vista
computer (using half-brackets) on the XP computer, and I noticed that the
half-brackets in the document had been replaced with blocks.

I've verified the problem on another computer running Word 2007 with XP.
I've also checked to make sure that the font versions I'm using on all the
computers are the same (they are).

I need to use these symbols in my documents, and the XP comp is more
convenient for me to take to the office. Any assistance would be greatly
appreciated!

Missing characters has nothing to do with your operating system, or
with your version of Word, and all to do with your fonts. If you have
a specialty font, especially a pre-Unicode font, installed on the old
computer, you need to move it over to the new one.

You'll find half-brackets at Unicode points 2308 and 2309; they should
be in any good-size standard font like Times New Roman or Arial
Unicode.
