Downloaded Spybot on a team-mates work computer (Windows XP) on a
network. Installed and tried to run Update. Get error message saying
that some installation file (does not mention) is corrupt and it cannot
update. Also cannot run Spybot since there are no definitions. When
trying to run, it immediately says no threats were found.

I think this machine is pretty bad off perhaps. I can run HijackThis,
CWShredder, Adaware, JV16 Reg Cleaner tool, etc..

Of course they need to have an AV program on this machine.

Saw two odd programs and could not find them via Google. aouoa.exe
(somethinglike that) and (e-mail address removed)

I can find the first file but not the second file using Find File
(looking also in hidden files).

Thanks in advance. I think perhaps this needs a good AVG or Panda or
other AV program cleaning as well as perhaps the server.
Thoughts?

For viruses, start with Trend Micro’s Sysclean. Download it and the
signature file. Turn off system restore. Also download McAfee's
Stinger. Boot into safe mode and run both sysclean and stinger. Boot
back into normal mode and run a full AV scan with your normal AV
program. Then turn system restore back on.

You should also regularly run at least two of these online scans in
addition to your regular up to date AV program:

Thanks that was my nest step. At least we are thinking the same way.
Appreciate it.

Tried on a newly imaged machine the other day and still had unable to
update-corrupted. Please download "Updater". So I wrote the author to
see what gives. Did try another downlaod as well no luck. Had used
installation from burned CD, then tried download.

Thanks,
Patty
