I was trying to install sp2 on one of my computers this
morning, it did go thru download & installtion process,
then came up with this message to rstart computer, I did
so.
But when my computer was rebooting it basically died &
could not reboot itself.
I tried to bring it up in safe mode, same story, so i
ended up using xp installatin disk do a recovery, &
finally computer was back in the normal mode.

Problem is I can see security shield on my control panel
but the security part of it is disabled, I have tried to
go back to windows update to download sp 2 again, but sp2
is not listed there any more.

I have norton 2004 & norton personal firewall 2004
installed on machine, & it is pentium 4, 512 meg ram
system.

Any suggestion?

Thanks

Hi

SP2 is available at the Microsoft Download Center
(standalone"network" version, 266 MB):

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a

It is the same file that you can get on a CD from Microsoft:

The Windows XP SP2 CD order point
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx

I'm having the exact same problem. Except, I can't even go
into safe mode! I thought I have some configurations
wrong, so I wiped out my hard drive and installed a fresh
copy of XP.

After installing SP2, I got the same problem! I need some
explanation from Microsoft.
