problem with shared borders

P D Sterling

I'm using FP 2000. I monkeyed up my home page yesterday, and I know how
I did it, but do not know how to fix it:

I added a page which was not a newsletter page, but a form, so I added a
new blank page, which displayed all my shared borders. However, I only
wanted to have the top, instead of top, left, and bottom, so I unchecked
the boxes, and created the page just find. Published it.

Now the home page menu buttons are unformatted, and I have had no luck
getting it back to the way it was (cue music - the Way We Were . . .)
Any assistance will be gratefully appreciated.

Okay, I was just working on this, and have given up. Latest wrinkle, the
buttons have disappeared, and I just have a message in FP that says
<format link buttons> or similar. All the pages are correct in the
navigation view, and I've backed out without saving. All I want to get
is the nice buttons I had before I added the latest page. BTW, the web
is www.oak-lawn-library.com. Thanks for posting!!

Nothing to do with shared borders, but...

You should use a dedicated imaging program to resize your images
before placing them on the page. On the homepage, although the display
size is not large, the file sizes are larger than they need to be,
which slows the loading of the page:

http://www.oak-lawn-library.com/images/knit 1.JPG

333x405 pixels but almost 2mb

http://www.oak-lawn-library.com/images/Knit 2.JPG

333x178 but over 2mb

Also, on this page, did you mean to have the small images link to
larger ones?

http://www.oak-lawn-library.com/photo_gallery.htm

If so, you can paste the full size image onto the page, then from the
imaging toolbar, select "auto thumbnail" and let FP do it's thing, it
will display the thumbnail and link to the full size image.

Thanks for the kind comments. I realized those pictures were painting
slowly, but boy, the knitters are tickled. I guess that rather than
grabbing a picture and making it fit, I should cut it down, then insert
it. Also I appreciate the suggestion to put in a thumbnail, which leads
to greater detail. All the photos are amateur, and some of them are
quite poorly composed, but we work with what we get.

Now how about getting my freaking buttons back!?

1) Open your online site in FP
- File Open Web/Site and enter http://www.oak-lawn-library.com/ and log in
2) Remove all spaces and punctuation from your file names
- will break your links and nav bars
3) In Nav View check the links and that the home page file name is correct
- make sure your home page file names is that required by your host
4) Apply your theme and run a Tool Recalculate hyperlinks
