Hey guys

I seem to be having a strange problem with my XP Pro SP2 installation
currently. While I'm in let's say Excel, if I try to use the File, Save As
function on a file of 200+ kb (from what I've ascertained), it'll cause the
PC to hang everytime these days. I also can't open image files using Paint
Shop Pro X at the moment (the app just hangs), but can with something simple
like Paint.

I've also noticed a problem with both attaching files to mails I've
generated in Outlook, as well as opening attached files.

I've tried all the usual steps like checking for viruses and spyware\adware,
running a registry cleaner (jv16 Powertools), checking RAM integrity with a
stress test like Prime95, etc.

My system specs are: Athlon 64 3200+ (Newcastle, skt 754), 1GB DDR400 RAM,
Gigabyte K8NS mobo, 2x 80 GB HDD's (one IDE [where WinXP installation
lives], one SATA).

This problem only started maybe 2 days ago...

TIA,
Dominic

I had this problem too but was advised that it was a problem with microsoft
automatic update KB908531. Having uninstalled this update, the problem seems
to have resolved itself. Seems to be only if with customers who have HP
equipment attached - compatibility problem!

Hi Ramesh

Thanks a lot mate... problem's all gone now! ^_^

One thing that doesn't work is if I try to 'Preview' an image with the
Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. It opens for about 0.5 of a second, and then
promptly closes itself.
You wouldn't perhaps know what could cause that?

Thanks,
Dominic

You're welcome Dominic.

For the Preview problem: See if this command helps, from Start/Run dialog:

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Sorry, never mind... the problem with the 'Preview' option only seems to
apply to images sitting directly on the desktop.
If I simply move the images elsewhere, then the 'Preview' function works
fine.

Weird problem. Do you have a shortcut to a network share on the Desktop?
