Problem with Remote Procedure Call

R

Richard Rath

I am running XP professional on a Toshiba Portege and have
2 user ID's, one for a LAN and another for dial-up. The
LAN connection was done much after the dial-up was
installed.

Now, when I try to dial up, within 6 minutes I get a
message that windows is shutting down in 60 seconds
because of a Remote Procedure Call.

Having now read about Internet Connection Firewall and its
relationship to RPC, I have disabled all the ICF (for my
dial-up, my LAN and my wireless connection too) using the
administrator feature. I have checked to see that ICF is
disabled at each user. I have hard shut down and re-
booted the machine after all the ICF "check boxes" showed
that ICF was disabled.

Even so, I still get the windows will shut down in 60
seconds because of RPC.

How can I fix this problem?

Very truly yours,

Richard Rath

Richard,

It's part of the virus that hit. The work around that I
know is:
1. Administrative Tools
2. Component Services
3. Find Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and then click on the
Recovery Tab. Change the 1st, 2nd and Subsequent Failures
to "Take No Action."
4. Find Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Located and do the
same thing.

This is the only way that I know how to do it without
having to blow away the system and restarting it.
