Problem with printer paper source keeps changing back to default settings

I installed a canon ip3500 on XP pro, In printing profiles I set up paper
source to "front for plain paper". Sometimes when I log off and log back on
later, it changes back to "rear tray". This is very annoying.
I also have 10 user accounts I need to create and I don't want to go through
this hassle of changing paper source for each account when it changes back
on its own.Can anyone tell me how I can either tweak the driver to change
the default paper source to front, or make a change in the registry? Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

Try adding a new printer
(Control Panel/Printers and Faxes/Add a printer)

Use the same Brand/Model Number as the current printer in the Wizard.
But give it a unique printer name by appending: Front Plain Paper
after the default printer name.

Now you will have two Cannon printers displayed in the list of available
printers.
One of which should have a name similar to: Canon ip3500 - Front Plain
Paper

Right click on the new printer you just added and select 'Properties'
Most likely in the General tab/Advance you should be able to set the paper
source
to "front for plain paper", click 'Apply' and the 'OK' button.

You should now have a printer preconfigured with the settings
that meet your requirements.

Sorry to bump this thread, but:

I'm having the same problem as Chris was.  Unfortunately, JS doesn't
actually answer the question.

The problem is that the printer's settings continue to revert when the
user logs off.  In my case, it's the setting for the output tray that
reverts to default (auto) every time.

When I try to set it back, it refuses to save the settings, and I have
to remove and re-add the printer every time.  The machine is Windows 7.

And the "auto" doesn't work correctly?
