A good start would be to be sure your drivers (especially video
drivers like Direct X) are current.

One good way to do this is to download Driver Genius (avoid Driver
Magic) from www.download.com

The software-- once installed-- will analyze your whole system and
then backup what you have, then download all the drivers you need.

You then get to install them one-at-a-time, watching the warning (the
driver you already have is newer than this one) or (the driver you
have is current)

Good luck!

(snip ridiculous drivel)

To the OP: Please make sure you have the most recent version of Java. Go to
this link and download the most recent version:

http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Then check in your Add/Remove Programs and uninstall all versions of Java.
Reboot. Now install the newest version.

To clear Sun Java's cache, Start>Settings>Control Panel>Java
applet>Cache>Clear or follow the same path to the Java applet and then to
General>Settings>Delete files.

If that doesn't help, we need more information from you to give you focused
troubleshooting such as how you connect to the Internet (method/ISP),
operating system version and Service Pack level, whether the computer has
been maintained and is virus/malware-free, and:

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things
worked and the time they didn't?
