Problem with pagesys.file in Windows XP

P

Paul

Hi all,

Can this file, if something is wrong with it
slow a system down?? I don't get a message
saying it's corrupted or anything.

BUT it kind of lags, when loading programs most of the time.

There are no viruses, or spyware on this system.

Its a P4 2.4 533 mhz mobo/CPU, and 1GB of ram.

So memory, or speed definitely isn't an issue.

Anyone think of something I can do to fix this prob??

I could disable virtual ram, do u think this would fix it?

Any info appreciated

Thanx

I posted this just a sec ago, but can't see it in the NG!

With the amount of RAM you have installed I doubt if the system is using the
pagefile very much at all.

I would look elsewhere. Have you run your up-to-date antivirus recently?
Have you run the requisite anti-spyware programs to see what kind of crap
you may have on your computer?

Yes it can . . BUT . . with no message indicating a
problem with this file, what would make you suspect it ?
Pagefile.sys is virtual RAM.
BUT it kind of lags, when loading programs most of the
time.

I assume you mean the computer is sluggish, that it runs
slowly sometimes. You also state there are no viruses or
spyware. Try using MSCONFIG to do some testing. Look
here:

OR
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310560
Use this program to temporarily prevent certain programs
from starting automatically when Windows starts. Many
programs that start automatically when Windows starts are
not part of Windows and are not necessary, and they
squander system resources. Things like RealPlayer,
QuickTime, etc.

If you are unsure what a particular program that starts
automatically does, search for it in Google and you'll
almost certainly find out. Don't disable anything having
to do with your anti-virus program.

Good Luck !

You really need to allow more than 9 minutes for a response before
posting your query gain.
