Problem with Nortel VPN client

L

Lester Horwinkle

I had the Nortel VPN client installed on my old Dimension 4100 under Win 98.
Worked fine. I used this to connect to my employer's network.

I installed that same version on my new Dimension 4600 under Win XP. This
blocks all networking. The network is totally dead. It turns out that I need
a newer version of the MVP client. Uninstalling it restored normal network
function.

Unfortunately, installing the newer version won't work either. It, too,
kills networking on this box. The corporate Help Desk says that installing
that older version messed things up, and I'll have to reinstall XP. No way
am I gonna do that.

I can tell you that in Device Manager, under Network adapters, there's a
Nortel IPSECSHM Adapter device. I tried to uninstall it, but it says "Failed
to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the
computer." Nice.

How do I get out of this mess?
