Problem with Internet Explorer

Using IE 6.0 with SP1 on Windows XP.

Problem: When visiting websites, I.E. cannot load al;l the pictures on the
page. I just get the outline of the picture and a red "x" in the upper left
hand corner. It's been like this since I installed XP on this newly
computer. Obviously I am missing some software?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
