Problem with Internet Explorer Handling of x-xbitmap

Hi

I have encountered a problem with Internet Explorer on Windows XP
Proffesional SP2 where by it will not display images of type x-xbitmap. I
have been looking for a cause and solution, but so far have only found a few
postings on the web stating that its a problem with XP SP2. Does anyone know
of any page detailing the change to IE which now blocks x-xbitmap. I checked
the headers IE is sending and it still claims to accept x-xbitmap mime type
in HTTP responses.

Thanks

Hi

I have now found this page (and a few similar ones)
http://blog.delphij.net/archives/000600.html

They mention that XP SP2 introduced a new security feature which blocks XBM
files amongst other things. I'm guessing it was something to do with the
identified problem of IE incorrectly handling XBM files which results in an
access violation, but I cannot find anything to confirm this. Even reading
through the white papers on XP SP2 there is no mention of anything that
would cause this.

The webpage also mentions a registry change to enable displaying the files.
This isn't really a workable solution for people who have used XBM files,
but is a workaround in some cases. I'll now look at an alternative to using
XBM for image counters on my site.
