Today I bought the samsung dvd player r-120. unfortunatly I entered the
samsung web site and downloaded the newst firmware update ver 2.5.
after reading the update manual I burned the file on a cd as reqested,
and installed it on my dvd player. after the update the player does not
read any media at all!!! neadless to say the dvd was reading most of
the dvds before the update.
I was about to loose my mind, but decided to ask for your kind help
before I do it...

please.

You might see if you can find the original (or any other)
firmware version and burn that to a disc at minimum speed
(that the DVD drive and software allow), then see if it'll
reflash it.

Failing that I"d be tempted to return the player to the
store. It was defective if it allows flashing a bios that
isn't intact, having correct checksum, and if the bios was
intact, it's Samsung's fault for releasing buggy bios.

It is possible that the burn became corrupted. It is possible that this
cannot be fixed, even if you were to get the original software to burn back.

The only alternative you may have is to bring back the drive, and see if
they will exchange it under warranty. You can tell them that the drive
stopped working. They will most likely send it back, and get you a new one,
unless they factory test the drive to determine what happened.

Normally these drives are not serviced. This is because of their low
replacement cost in relation to the cost of servicing them.

Was the drive working properly in the first place?
What prompted you to upgrade its internal software?
If there was a fault, would it not be best to simply bring the drive back to
the dealer?

Dear Jana and Kony;

Thanx for your replay and suggestions, I decided to upgrade the
firmware because some of the Divx movies did not display good. By the
advice of the shop seller and reading the advice in the Divx website, I
entered Samsungs web site and downloaded the correct file for the
firmware update hoping it will mend the problem. The burning process
was flawless. The file executed on the dvd player exactly as the manual
showed, the only problem is that since then the DVD player does not
read any DVD at all. Strangely it reads all audio CDs...
Any other thoughts?
Any way I am on my way to the store, I will ask for a full refund. I
already sent Samsung two mails about the problem, still no replay from
them.

Thanx again for your help.
