Problem with File Transfer Wizard

I'm trying to transfer files from my old computer (ME) to my new
computer(XP). I have the two computers connected with a null modem
cable. I get the message on both computers that a successful
connection has been made on COM 1 with the green checks. I selected a
..doc file to transfer and get error messages on both computers. On
the new computer the message is " An error occurred while the wizard
was loading your data. The wizard canot find your files in the source
location." On the old computer, the message is "An error occurred
while the wizard was saving your data. The wizard cannot locate your
new computer". I tried this with several different .doc files and get
the same result. What's wrong and how do I correct this?
