Problem with downloads, ISP can't help

Hey, got a problem, ISP says it's on my side and not theirs and can't help out.
Here goes:
When I download I have to 'leave everything' if I want it to finish.
Meaning, if I keep surfing, opening, browsing the computer, watching a movie,
etc, the download with stop responding.
It will still say it is downloading, "89 kbs, 12 minutes remains" and all,
only it isn't actually doing anything. Can stay like this for hours until it
times out.
Same happens with when I tried other programs to surf with.

My ISP advised me to use a program to organize my downloads, and it seems to
do the work, but only when I'm downloading files.
When I am trying to watch trailers online, whether it's on WMV or MOV, or
any clip on youtube, once I do ANYTHING it will, most likely, stop
downloading.

Anyone has any idea what to do with it?

First you will need to tell us about your machine:

How large is your hard drive?
How fast is the CPU?
How much memory do you have?
When was the last time maintenance was performed on it (ridding it of
malware and temp files)?

If I understand correctly, you are now downloading without problems, but
apparently there are problems viewing *streaming* media. That is likely
a performance issue.

Finally, what kind of connection do you have: broadband or dial-up? If
the latter, you'll more than likely need to forego streaming. Until you
increase your bandwidth, you'll need to download and view the files from
your hard drive.

I've got a pentium 4 2.8GHz
1GB RAM
120GB hard disk
I try to maintain it often

I got a ADSL 5mb connection, and I was wrong in the first post, I still have
problem with normal downloads.
My problem is that just like when I download normal files it stops in the
middle, when I try watching streaming media is also stops the download in the
middle.

What is your viewer? Windows Media Player? And if so, which version?
Have you tried other players?

Then again, if this happens with *downloads* too, scratch that thought!

Which browser are you using (and which version)? Have you tried other
browsers? Does this happen when utilizing an FTP client, too? Torrents?
WinMX?

Who is your ISP? Is there a forum where you can communicate with other
customers of your ISP?

Does the download *ever* eventually resume? If not, I'm still thinking
it's the ISP.
