Problem with displaying folder contents

M

Mel Vogel

I was looking for a way to have my printer print the
contents of directories (folders), and went to a Microsoft
Help Web page.

It instructed me to create a small batch file using
Notepad, save that file as "Prin.bat", save it in my
C:\WIndows\NT folder then add it to the Folder Types in
the "Tools/Folder Options" drop-down menu found in Windows
Explorer.

I followed the instructions but wound up with two
problems:

(1) I was unable to print the contents of directories, but
even more serious,

(2), when I'm using either My Computer or Windows Explorer
and double-click any folder, I don't get its contents in
the usual way -- just showing the files that are in that
folder. Instead, XP now automatically goes to the Search
display box to show me the entire contents of that file.

I am able to perform any function I wish to regarding
folders -- open them, etc.-- but the Search display box is
rather clunky to use. Deleting "Prin.bat"did not resolve
the problem -- it still persists.

I'd like to revert back to the normal way I accessed the
contents of folders -- via either My Computer or Windows
Explorer -- and not have the Search display box come up.

How might I do that?

Thank you.

Hi Mel,

This will correct the issue for you:
Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i shell32

It is mentioned in a similar way via the write-up.
