Problem with cd rw dvd installation

Hi to all.

This is my problem, hope some could afford and help me solving it.

I have a Toshiba satellite pro 4600, now i have changed the TEAC cd rom with
a new Samsung CD ROM DVD drive but windows XP seems not to recognise it.

If i change the drive with the operating system on (the notebook turned on),
it recognises the drive, then it works fine, but as i reboot the system
there is some trick that keeps the DVD from working.

I have tried to read the system analysis, and it shows an ACPI error.
Now i am asking myself: "why it does not work on rebooting, if it works fine
if i mount it when the pc is on??????

Could anybody Tell me how to solve it??????
Driver problem? WinXP problem? Firmware problem???

Thanks in advance for your kinda answer.

Did the retailers where you purchased the new drive tell you it was
compatible with your 4600? Notebooks can be very picky.

Dear Cari, there is no retailer, i took from a notebook of my own broken.

The question is: why it works fine when i connect it on the way, and it does
not work when i reboot the system??? How could it be avoided?

Max
