Problem with CD/DVD

My CD and DVD drives have been working OK for years. But after I installed
SP2 for Windows XP PRO Windows sees any disk as empty. While mounting a disk
Windows says that the disk is empty. While trying to read the disk Windows
say the disk is probaly destroyed or has a format not compatible with
Windows. While booting with the Windows CD, the dive perform OK.
Have tried to roll back to just before SP2 was installed, and also
uninstalling SP2. Same result.
Has something happened to Registry or BIOS?
Anyone that can help?--
