Problem with 250Gb WD Hard drive only showing 128Gb (137Gb)

Hi,

I recently purchased an extra 250Gb Sata 2 Western Digital 16Mb hard
drive for my Windows XP (MCE) SP2 Pc.

After installing i rebooted and found that it has only been recognised
as a 128Gb drive in Disk Management.

My primary hard drive (which is identicle) operates fine.

Any ideas why the whole volume is not available?

TIA

Hi David,

I am assuming that you know how to get into your BIOS.
What does your BIOS tell you with regards to that new drive?

Hi,

The BIOS is displaying the drive as the reduced amount (i.e. 137Gb).

The other drive (which is exactly the same) is operating fine.

Just a follow up.

I upgraded my firmware (btw my MB was a GA-K8N Pro SLI) from F4 to F7
and this corrected the problem.

Strange how the F4 bios could see the full 250Gb of one drive but not
see the other (this is probably why Gigabyte are no longer providing
this firmware revision)!?

Anyways, after flashing the bios to F7 all was well and i could format
the full drive.
