Problem where bullets print as question marks

When printing to a Canon iR2200 copier/printer from MS Word 2003 (Windows XP
Pro machine) the bullets appear as question marks. Any idea why this
happens and what the fix is? Any help appreciated.
 
Yes, the print preview in Word is OK. The printer driver is set to
"download truetype". I don't know if the printer is substituting the
question marks for the bullets or if the question marks are being sent to
the printer. I've tried using a different font in Word without success. I
also tried a PCL5 driver in place of PCL6. Any suggestions as to how I can
troubleshoot this will be much appreciated.
 
FYI, I was able to solve the problem by changing to a different driver
(although I don't understand the problem any better as a result <g>).
