Problem using windows XP

With windows XP they have a shadow under the mouse pointer. So the mouse
pointer is sitting a couple of millimetres off the desktop. When I push down
with the mouse button this shadow still remains, so the pointer is still 2
mm above whatever I'm working on. If it's this distance over, say, a
scrollbar then how does it move the scrollbar if it's still 2mm away from
it?

Thanks for any replies

Have you tried changing your mouse scheme in the control panel?

The shadows are applied by the OS aren't they so will apply to any mouse
scheme?

Hi Michael,

Surely the "mouse pointer" isn't really above the
desktop.......................... Have you tried scraping it off ? (Just
kidding....) I would think that the "shadow" is just part of the graphic
(the pointer).

When you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains; however improbable
has to be the answer. Are you experiencing other display issues other
than the described problem with your mouse?

The shadow is a visual effect, doofus. It's not an indication of
distance above the screen/item.

Apparently winxp uses a hardware pointer, so I presume it's a solid object
moved around inside the lcd by magnets. It must sit on the outside of the
glass and hence produce a shadow.
