problem using protected sheets

So this should be possible in Excel 2003?
Can you tell me how to achieve this?

I have the following problem, which I'm not sure is possible to solve/work
around:

In my sheet I grouped several columns and rows. After protecting the
worksheet it's not possible anymore to hide or show the groups, which I
really need to be able to do.

I'm using Excel 97.

Does anyone know a solution or work around?

If you already have the outline applied, you can protect the worksheet in code
(auto_open/workbook_open??).

Option Explicit
Sub auto_open()
With Worksheets("sheet1")
.Protect Password:="hi", userinterfaceonly:=True
.EnableOutlining = True
End With
End Sub

It needs to be reset each time you open the workbook. (excel doesn't remember
it after closing the workbook.)
