Problem uninstalling 1.0.3 before installing 1.1

Hi,
I have a W2k server that had the .NET 1.0.3 framework installed.
I now want to uninstall it and put 1.1 on instead. When I try to uninstall
1.0.3 it hangs, and after 5 hours I terminated it and thought I might as
well just try to install 1.1 over the top.
1.1 reports the previous incomplete task and tries to roll back, but that
just hangs and after 3 hours I had to terminate it.
Now I can't upgrade to 1.1, and I can't remove 1.0.3.

I have just tried to uninstall 1.0.3 again, its stuck on the 'Please wait
while Windows configures Microsoft .NET Framework' screen, with 3 blocks on
the progress bar.

What can I do?

I would aim for a repair of the Framework install with the Windows 2003 CD.
If this does not work, rebuild sounds like a good word to me. Hate to be the
bearer of bad tidings, but I have been on the receiving end one too many
times; it is often easier to rebuild than fix.

NOTE: For the record, you do not have to uninstall a previous version of the
Framework (unless pressed for space, which would be an awfully dire need for
a few hundred MB).
