Please could anybody help?
Not sure what and why it happened but I started to get a message up on
screen saying I have 60 seconds to save my work as windows was terminating.
It would count down and restart and continue to do so if I left it alone. It
would also freeze making it impossible for me to do anything so I tried
repairing if with my win XP recovery disk. This seemed to solve the problem
other than now when booting up or restarting Windows XP it "hangs" on the
"Windows is starting up" screen for about 5 minutes before it continues to
the welcome screen before it finally loads!
I have a problem with Service Pack 2. I did initially install it but
carried out a System Restore to see if that would resolve the problem with
Windows starting up. After doing that I noticed it only showed SP1 as being
installed on my computer although I had previously installed it. I have the
Security Center and Windows Firewall icons in the Control Panel, which I am
now unable to access. I have tried to reinstall SP2 without any success so I
have ordered the CD from Microsoft to try reinstalling it. I was told that
doing a System Restore after installing SP2 means that the files have changed
and when I installed SP2 it updated some windows files and when I did the
restore point it removed SP2 but it left some of those files as new.
Do you think that the problem with SP2 would contribute to my problems with
Windows Starting up?
I have been told that my only option maybe reformatting my computer? I don’t
what to have to do this if I can help it. I would appreciate if it anyone
had any other suggestions?
Many thanks
