R

robin.maurice

I am not a newbie ... but i have couple of bug on my network

Ok here's my problem ... i can browse on my network a couple of shared
folder on every computer, but i have problem sharing some folder on my
computer like "My Documents" and "Shared Documents" and some others
...... the weird things is that i have the same settings for all, same
user policy etc ....

I don't use the simple sharing so i am on Windows Xp Pro with all
update .....

When i try to browse those particular folder they say :

" xxxxx is not accessible. You might not have permisssion to use this
network ressource. Contact blablabla - The network path was not found"

Like i said this is not basic problem .. cauze i am browsing other
folders with no problem at all .... and i have check everywhere to make
sure that everything match perfectly security & permissions ....
everything everything ....

Thanks in advanced ....

Robin,

The error "...network path was not found..." is a name resolution problem. It's
generally caused by a firewall problem, a node type problem, or a NetBT setting.
Read this article with an open mind.

You could look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and
"net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the problem. Read
this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download
browstat!):

This response is too research-involved. How about just telling us what to
do? Here's some more interesting info. The Windows 2000 machines share
quite easily. But Windows XP machines will not share Documents and Settings
and subs therein. What do we do? You guys are the gurus. We don't want to
be gurus. But we need your help. Please tell us what to do, not where to
research.

Thanks.

It is very simple - if you don't want to do the research to find out what
you've got set up wrong, call a local professional to come on-site and do
the job for you. Look in the Yellow Pages (US - business phone directory)
and/or ask friends and colleagues for recommendations. That will be the
easiest and most efficient way to solve your problem. I'm not saying this
to be snide or to hurt your feelings; I'm just being practical.

Otherwise, I'm sorry but you've obviously got some permissions somewhere set
incorrectly and even though you say you've checked, you'll need to recheck
because it is obvious that something is set up wrong or your network file
sharing would be working.

Bill,

Are you the OP using another name? Or are you a thread hijacker?

It's impossible to tell anyone what to do, without some research. The OP's
single post, with symptoms only hinted at, was just scratching the surface. As
I said, the error message could be caused by a firewall problem, a node type
problem, or a NetBT setting, and without research, you cannot tell which. There
are no clairvoyants here - we're just techies. Provide details! We're not
going to play 20 questions with you.

Now, if you're a thread hijacker, you're a top posting hijacker too.

And, reminding you that every computer in the world is probably unique, so are
problems and symptoms.

No, I'm not the OP. I have the same problem the OP is having. A "thread
hijacker?" OK, if you say so. I prefer to call it "an OP advocate and
empathizer." But whatever. Obviously you don't have an answer, or you
would have given one. So, what do call yourself? Jack the Ripper?

Bill,

If you're not the OP, and you are truly looking for help solving a network
problem, we'll be glad to try and help you. But it would be best if you'd ask
for help in a new thread - this will help us help you better. Now I provide
links to various articles, some of which I write myself, which discuss each bit
of advice further. You could click on the links, and help both of us.

When you ask for advice, PLEASE provide details about your network, as well as
the problem. Don't make us play 20 questions.

The best diagnostics to start with would be from 1 or 2 problem computers, AND
from 2 or 3 properly working ones. It helps greatly if you provide "browstat
status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and "net config workstation",
from each computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and
linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):
