Problem sharing a printer

I'm having problems sharing a HP 970cxi printer on a workgroup. I'm on XP2
and have set everything up for networking through the wizards and done it
several times. Everything seem to be set up properly but others on the
network cannot see the printer to install it although they can see my shared
files. Have tired updated driver from HP but that's even worse because XP
keeps saying problem installing it even though the printer works. Also
running Norton Internet Security 2004 which is also correct. Doesn't even
work when Norton switched off completely and XP Firewall switched off. Any
ideas?

ok simple questions. Can you see the shared printer? If you open your web
browser and enter \\yourcomputername can you see the shared printer with
all firewalls off?

If you can and they only see the shared folders you have an odd problem.
Willing to bet you do not see it either as it is not properly shared. try
sharing again and use a different short name no spaces.
If users can't see your computer by using \\yourcomputername use
\\youripaddress

the best way to map a drive or shared printer is to go to the \\computername
and then you can see all the shared resources on the computer. You can
right click the a share to choose to map a drive or double click a printer
to install it

Shorter name has done it. Spent 3 hours trying to sort it yesterday. Thought
it was firewall, virus program or something else technical. Properties
dialogue says short names need for DOS but doesn't mention 98 or Millennium
which is what the others in the group are running.

Thanks
