Problem - sapphire X1600 Pro and Abit KV7-V

I just purchased a Sapphire X1600 Pro 512Meg video card to replace my aging
GeForce 4 Ti4400 128Meg card. Typically installing a new video card is just
a simple swap and install driver procedure, this isn't the case for me.

The Sapphire X1600 Pro is an AGP8x card, and my KV7-V motherboard (which has
an Athlon 2900+ cpu) supports AGP8,. However, when I installed the card,
when my system boots, it doesn't recognize the RAID0 that I have. It pretty
much stops at "Verifying DMI Pool..." It won't allow me to create a new
RAID0 array, and after installing FC5-Linux on my system and finally getting
all the updates and configuration settings set, along with Windows XP, I
really don't want to lose all my data anyways. But like I said, it won't
let me make a new array..

I made sure I followed the instructions. Plugged in the additional power
connector to the card. I even tried a more powerful power supply (from 350w
to 430w). That didn't do the trick. Everything works fine when I put the
GeForce 4 back in the system, but I'd really prefer to get the AGP8x and
512Meg going. I also went in the Bios to make sure the settings for the AGP
card were more accurate, using a 512Meg Apperature.

The one odd thing I have noticed about this card is the AGP interface. It
doesn't look like an AGP 4x or 8x interface (with the 3 slots to it), it
only has 2 slots to the interface. This almost makes me think it's trying
to use 3.3V (used for AGP1x and 2x) rather than the 0.8V required for AGP8x.
However, the KV7-V doesn't support 3.3V cards, it only supports 1.5V(AGP 4x)
and 0.8V (AGP 8x) cards..

I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this problem and if there's
something I'm missing. I kind of wonder also if it could be an IRQ conflict
with one of the onboard devices, but I can't really see that happening.
I've seen some posts online from people that had the same card and
motherboard, just no mention of RAID0. The card does work though, I tried
it in my Celeron 1.3, ASUS Tua266 system and it worked fine. But there's no
way I'm going to sacrifice and put it in that system permanently.

Thanks in advance for any replies,
Wayne

I snipped some so you could spot my reply! I may well be wrong, but last
time I handled an Asus KV7 board I thought that the extra power connector
was supposed to go into the motherboard. Or have you two connectors? No
way this card would use 3.3v, relax. Possibly try clearing the Asus CMOS.
